What it’s like

A timber-framed Tudor house where kids can try on armour, dress up and poke about a real medieval garden.

This is a proper old house, not a rope-off-and-look museum. Kids get to handle objects, try on armour and dress up in period gear, and there's a free family trail to follow round the rooms and the Tudor garden outside. It's small, so nobody's going to be worn out by the end, but the site reckons on at least an hour to do it justice and that feels about right once you factor in the garden and the dressing up box.

The building itself is the other half of the story. Steep stairs and uneven floors throughout mean it's not one for a buggy, and you'll want a hand free for smaller ones on the way up. Term time weekday mornings can mean school groups until 2pm, so if you want it quiet, either come after that or pick a school holiday.

Entry is £6 for an adult and £4 for a child aged 4 to 16, with under-4s going free. A family ticket for two adults and three kids comes to £18, which undercuts paying separately if you've got more than one child in tow. If you're doing Cadbury World the same trip, flashing that ticket knocks 20% off here, and Blue Peter badge holders get in free alongside a paying adult on non-event days.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£6 for an adult, £4 for a child aged 4 to 16, and under-4s go free. A family ticket covering two adults and three kids is £18.

How long do people spend there?

At least an hour, the site says, and that sounds right once you count the garden and the dressing up.

Is it suitable for a toddler?

Under-4s go free and there's plenty to handle and dress up in, but the stairs are steep and the floors uneven, so it's not buggy-friendly.

Do we need to book ahead?

There's no booking link, so you'd just turn up during opening hours.

When's the quietest time to go?

Avoid term time weekday mornings up to 2pm, when school groups are often in. Weekday afternoons or outside those hours tend to be calmer.

Is there a discount if we're also visiting Cadbury World?

Yes, 20% off if you show a Cadbury World ticket, bringing adult entry down to £4.80.

What can kids actually do there?

Try on armour, dress up, handle objects, play games and follow a free family trail through the house and the Tudor garden.
