What it’s like

Theatrical shows and special-effects illusions in the heart of Stoke, with a family pride after-party thrown in for some dates.

This is a theatre in the middle of Stoke-on-Trent doing proper stage productions, with shows built around special effects and illusions rather than just people talking on a bare set. There's live music and family events on the programme too, so it's worth a look at what's actually on before you book, since one night might be a full-blown production and another something smaller.

One date to flag is the Family Pride After-Party, which turns things into arts and crafts, face painting, a disco and a bouncy castle. That's clearly the one to pick if you want the kids doing more than sitting still in the dark, and it's a good excuse for the grown-ups to loosen up a bit too.

Getting there is straightforward. You're a seven-minute walk from Stoke-on-Trent Railway Station, or under ten minutes on the bus from Newcastle Bus Station to the Church Street stop, which leaves you a minute's walk from the door. If you're driving, the venue sits just off the M6 at Junction 15, and there are several car parks within a few minutes' walk, most of them a couple of pounds and free on Sundays or for blue badge holders.

Tickets go by phone, email, in person at the box office, through Facebook or online. Card only on site, so don't rely on cash once you're through the door.
