What it’s like
A role-play village café for babies and under-sixes, with imaginative play areas and exclusive birthday parties.
This one's built around imaginative, child-led play rather than climbing frames or slides. The whole setup is role-play areas designed for the very young, so a one-year-old pottering about and a five-year-old running a shop scenario can both get stuck in without anyone getting mown down by a bigger kid on a scooter.
It's aimed squarely at 0 to 6, which is refreshing if you've ever taken a toddler somewhere designed for ten-year-olds and spent the whole time steering them away from the big kids' bit. There's a café on site too, so you can get a coffee while the little one plays, rather than perching on a bench with a lukewarm one.
Birthday parties are the other big thing here. You get exclusive use of the whole venue for two hours, which is not something every play café offers, and packages start at £150 up to £500 for the full works with catering, decorations and themed goodie bags. They'll open half an hour early so you can decorate in peace, jugs of squash are provided for the kids, and the café stays open for the grown-ups during the party. The Gold package throws in a free return visit for the birthday child and a parent, which is a nice touch if you want an excuse to go back.
