Twist Board Game Cafe Bar
BEST FOR
Ages 0-18
WHERE
Plymouth
What it’s like
Board game café bar with over 600 games to play through, plus pizzas and milkshakes if you'd rather just eat.
You pick a table, order food or drink, and then pick a game from a library of more than 600. There's a proper games menu with suggestions for kids up to about 8 or 10, so you're not stuck flicking through box after box while your table gets restless. Beyond that age it opens up to whatever strategy or party game takes your fancy, which makes it a decent one for a family with a wide age gap in it.
The catch that trips people up is the games session charge. It's separate from your food bill, essentially a ticket price for playing, and it only applies if you're actually getting games out. If you're just there for pizza and a milkshake, you skip it entirely.
Under 14s need an adult with them, and under 16s are welcome until 8pm (later if the staff are happy to allow it). After 11pm it switches to over-18s only, so an evening booking with teenagers needs some care about timing. Only food bought on site is allowed, with the one exception being anything you need for a child under 24 months, and there's no microwave if you're planning on heating anything up.
The ground floor is wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet, though only about half the tables down there suit a wheelchair and the first floor is stairs only. Parking isn't on site, but the Mayflower Street East car park sits directly behind the building if you don't mind paying by the hour.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book?
Walk-ins are usually fine, but booking's advised if you know when you're coming, especially on a Saturday which is their busiest day.
What's the games session charge?
It's the ticket price for playing games, separate from whatever you spend on food and drink. If you're only there to eat, you don't pay it.
Can we bring our own snacks?
Only for a child under 24 months. Everyone else has to eat and drink what's bought on site, and there's no microwave for heating anything up.
Is it suitable for young kids?
There's a games menu geared towards kids up to about 8 or 10, so younger ones aren't just picking randomly off the shelf. Under 14s do need an adult with them.
How late can teenagers stay?
Under 16s are welcome until 8pm, sometimes later at the staff's discretion. 16 and 17 year olds can stay until 11pm, after which it's over-18s only.
Is there parking nearby?
Mayflower Street East Car Park is right behind the building. It's £3 for two hours, £3.80 for three, or £5.20 for four, paid at the machine or via the RingGo app.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
The ground floor is, with an accessible toilet down there too, though only about half the tables suit a wheelchair. The first floor is stairs only.
What food is on offer?
Pizzas, milkshakes, soft and hot drinks, desserts and craft beers, so there's something for adults and kids at the table.
