What it’s like
Real go karting on a 475m track with rapid straights and ten corners, plus a Mini Racer track for the younger ones and duckpin bowling.
The main event is the 475m track, ten corners and proper straights where you actually pick up some speed, but there's a lot going on before you get near a full-size kart. Combat Karts mixes gaming with karting on a shorter 275m track, and Mini Racers is the one to aim for with a four to seven year old, built for kids between 1.0m and 1.4m tall. Anyone racing a proper kart on their own needs to be 8, with a 25 inch inside leg and 1.2m minimum height, so a four-year-old is watching from the bar rather than driving, at least until they've grown a bit.
They kit you out with a race suit and helmet, and you'll need your own balaclava under it. No headwear goes under the helmet, which includes religious head coverings, and it's worth knowing before you turn up rather than finding out at the desk. Trainers are the sensible shoe choice, nothing open-toed.
Booking is essential, not just recommended, and they take full payment upfront to hold your slot. That's a bit of a faff if plans change, since bookings are non-refundable unless you've paid extra for the flexi option. Spectating is free though, and you don't need to book for that, so grandparents or a nervous parent can just turn up and cheer from the bar areas.
It's cashless throughout, cards only, and there's a Fuel Bar doing soft drinks, alcohol and a food menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, though you can't bring outside food in. Parking's free at the rear on Harrington Road, and Brunswick train station is under five minutes' walk if you're coming by rail. Wheelchair access covers the Starter Track and the bowling area, but not the pit lane itself.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book in advance?
Yes, and they take full payment when you book to hold your session, so it's not really optional if you want to be sure of a slot.
What age can kids start karting?
Proper karts need an 8 year old with a 25 inch inside leg and at least 1.2m height. Mini Racers covers ages 4 to 7, for kids between 1.0m and 1.4m tall.
Can my child race without me?
From age 8 they can race solo if they want to, but anyone under 16 still needs an adult with them at the venue.
Do we need a driving licence?
No licence needed, they'll talk you through everything before your first session.
Is there parking?
Free parking at the rear of the building on Harrington Road.
Can we get there by train?
Brunswick train station is under five minutes' walk away.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Wheelchair access covers the Starter Track and the bowling area, plus disabled parking, but the pit lane itself isn't accessible.
What should we wear?
They provide the race suit and helmet, but bring your own balaclava. Trainers are the shoe to wear, nothing open-toed or heeled.
Is there food and drink on site?
The Fuel Bar does soft drinks, alcohol and a food menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. You can't bring outside food in though.
Can spectators just turn up?
Spectating is free and you don't need to book, just come along to the bar areas and watch.
Do you do birthday parties?
They host kids' birthday parties, and watching racers is free if you've got guests who'd rather not drive.
