What it’s like

Strictly over-18s: American pool, crazy pool, shuffleboard, darts and ping pong in one Hanover Street venue.

This one's for the adults only. Roxy Ball Room operates a Challenge 25 policy and won't let anyone under 18 through the door, so leave the kids at home and treat it as a proper night out instead. Once you're in, the games room is the point: American pool across four tables, crazy pool with its obstacles built in, tech darts with a few different game modes, shuffleboard, ping pong and the usual arcade machines dotted about.

Pricing works on a mix and match basis if you fancy trying more than one thing. Two activities together come to £15, three come to £20, and most games also flex between off-peak and peak rates, so shuffleboard for instance runs from £15 off-peak up to £22 at peak times. Booking ahead online is recommended for the gaming tables, especially at weekends, though walk-ins get in if there's space. The drinking tables are more relaxed and first come first served unless you book.

Food runs to American-style pizzas, burgers, wings and sides, with a bar doing cocktails, beers, ciders and mocktails to match. It's cashless at the bar, card only, so don't turn up expecting to pay with notes.

Two things worth knowing before you go: the venue sits up three flights of stairs with no lift, so it's not one for anyone who struggles with stairs, and the dress code rules out sportswear, football shirts and joggers. Bowling shoes are provided but your own flat-soled, closed-toe shoes are fine if you'd rather skip the rental ones.

Plan your visit

Is this venue for adults only?

Yes, strictly over-18s with a Challenge 25 policy in place. Nobody under 18 is admitted, no exceptions.

How much does it cost?

Single games run from around £8 for off-peak crazy pool up to £25 for shuffleboard. Mix and match deals bring two activities to £15 or three to £20.

Do we need to book?

Booking online is recommended for gaming tables, particularly at weekends, but walk-ins are welcome if there's space. Drinking tables are first come first served unless you book ahead.

What's the dress code?

No sportswear, football shirts or jogging bottoms. Fancy dress is allowed if it's tasteful, and they'll tell you if you check with them first.

Is there a lift to the games floor?

It's an upper floor venue reached by three flights of stairs. There's an accessible toilet once you're up there.

Can I wear my own shoes for bowling?

Flat-soled, closed-toe shoes are fine. Heels, open-toe shoes and flip-flops aren't allowed, and bowling shoes are available at the games desk if you need them.

Do you take cash?

The bars are card only. Bring a card, not notes.

What's on the food menu?

American-style pizzas, burgers, chicken wings and sides, with cocktails, beers, ciders and mocktails at the bar.

Do you show live sport?

Sky and TNT Sports are shown at most sites, and terrestrial coverage for big national events at selected venues. Check their socials to see what's on where.

What are the opening hours?

Monday to Wednesday it's 3pm to 11pm, Thursday to midnight, Friday to 12:30am, and Saturday from midday to 12:30am. Hours can shift over school holidays and bank holidays.

Does the shuffleboard powder contain nuts?

It contains walnut shell, not the walnut itself, which the supplier says carries far fewer allergens than the nut. Still, if you've got a nut allergy it's one to be aware of.

Can I book a table for food?

General dining doesn't need a booking, though it can be arranged. For group parties, get in touch directly to sort food reservations.
