What it’s like
A free local library with parent and toddler groups, computers and a community hall for all sorts of activities.
Books and a bit of noise, in a good way. There's a library service with the usual books and computer access, but the parent and toddler groups are the reason to check the timetable before you head out with a small one. It's a proper community hub as well, with a multi-use room and community hall hosting sports and activities for all sorts of ages, so it's not just a place to be quiet in.
It's free to get in, which makes it an easy stop if you're local and want somewhere warm with toilets and wifi that doesn't cost anything. Opening hours shift through the week: Monday to Friday it's 9am to 6pm, except Wednesday when it opens later at 10am and stays open until 7pm, which is handy if you can't get there before work finishes. Saturdays run 9am to 5.30pm and it's closed all day Sunday.
Over Christmas the hours change a fair bit. It closes at midday on Saturday 24 December and doesn't reopen until Wednesday 28 December, then runs 9am to 6pm from the 28th to the 30th, closes at midday again on New Year's Eve, and reopens on Tuesday 3 January. Worth pencilling in if you're planning a visit either side of the holidays.
