Rhydypennau Hub
WHERE
Cardiff
What it’s like
A proper library with regular baby rhyme time, storytime and craft sessions, plus toddler groups to break up the week.
This is a working library and community hub, not a soft play with books bolted on, and that's actually the appeal. There's parent and toddler groups, story and rhyme time sessions, and baby rhyme time for the ones too small to sit still for a full story yet. Storytime and craft sessions give slightly older kids something to actually make and take home, which beats another round of just sitting and listening.
It suits babies through to primary age, since the sessions split out by the sounds kids can make rather than expecting them all to behave the same way. There's no cost mentioned for these, and it has the relaxed, low pressure feel of a library rather than a ticketed activity, so you're not clock watching the way you would at a soft play session.
Opening hours are a bit of a puzzle: shut on Wednesdays and Sundays, and Tuesday's the long day if you need somewhere to be until 6pm. There's wifi, toilets and indoor seating.
Community activities run for groups of all ages beyond the kids' sessions, and there's an Into Work Advice Service on Fridays plus a Money Advice Team on the second Friday of the month.
