What it’s like
A free local library with a story and rhyme time, a dinosaur craft session and a proper toddler area to potter about in.
This is a working library rather than an attraction, and that's exactly its charm on a rainy Tuesday. There's a under-5s area with books and toys, story and rhyme time sessions, and parent and toddler groups that give you somewhere to sit down while your child does the socialising for once. A dinosaur craft session gets a mention too, which is the kind of low-key thing that fills forty minutes nicely without any of you needing a nap afterwards.
It's free to get in, which matters when you're weighing up how to fill an afternoon without spending anything. There's baby changing, toilets and wifi, and the whole place has indoor seating if you just want to park yourselves with a picture book for a while. Nobody's rushing you out.
Hours shift around a fair bit through the week, so it's worth having them to hand rather than guessing. Thursday is the one to remember if you need a later visit, running from 10am to 7pm. Saturday is the useful weekend slot, open 9am to 5.30pm, and Sunday the whole place is shut.
Over Christmas the hours change again. It closes at 12pm on 24 December, then reopens at 9am the same as usual from 28 to 30 December, running to 6pm those days. It keeps its normal hours after that until closing at 12pm on 31 December, then reopens on 3 January.
