This is a library first, but it's got more going on than shelves. There are parent and toddler groups to drop into, story time activities for the smaller ones, and craft sessions that have included making dinosaur masks and hatching models, which is a good sight better than another wet afternoon at home.

It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to slot into a morning without much planning. There's wifi and indoor seating if you want to sit and let a toddler potter about, and toilets on site so you're not racing the clock. No booking link is given, so it reads like a turn-up-and-see sort of place rather than one where you need to plan a week ahead.

Opening hours are a bit uneven across the week: 9am to 5pm most days, a later 10am to 6pm on Thursdays, and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Worth building that into your plans if you're aiming for a specific craft session or toddler group, since the closed days catch people out.

Over Christmas and New Year the hours shift again, closing early on Christmas Eve and reopening a few days later, then settling into slightly earlier hours between Christmas and New Year before the usual pattern resumes in January.
