What it’s like
A free library and community space with books, public computers and wifi, open most days except Friday and Sunday.
This is a proper working library rather than a destination in itself, but that's exactly why it's useful on an ordinary afternoon. There are books to browse, public computers if you need to print something or your kids want to poke about online for a bit, and free wifi if you've brought your own laptop. It's free to get in and there's indoor seating and toilets, so it's an easy stop if you need somewhere warm and quiet without spending anything.
The hours are a bit of a puzzle to remember. Monday to Wednesday it's 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm, Thursday runs a little later at 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm, and Saturday is 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm. Friday and Sunday it's shut completely, which catches people out if they're used to libraries being open every weekday.
There are community activities running for groups of all ages too. It's not the kind of trip that needs planning, just check the day of the week before you turn up, especially around the closed lunch hour in the middle of the day.
Christmas brings its own timetable. It shuts at midday on Saturday 24 December and reopens on Wednesday 28 December, then keeps its usual hours until midday on Saturday 31 December. Between 28 and 30 December it opens 9am to 6pm, before reopening properly on Tuesday 3 January.
