What it’s like

Stand-up paddleboarding sessions for kids 7 and up, with tandem boards for the less confident and a summer junior club.

This is paddleboarding lessons on the water at Devils Point, aimed at kids from age 7 up who fancy having a go standing on a board rather than just messing about in one. The SUP Experience covers skills, races and games, and if you've got a child who's not quite steady enough to go it alone, there are tandem boards so they can paddle with an adult instead.

A single SUP Experience is £30, or there's a family offer at £110 for two adults and two children, which works out kinder than paying separately. If your child gets the bug, the Junior Club runs across the summer holidays, Monday to Friday over four weeks, for ages 5 and up, at £150 for five days. There's also an Improver Session at £40 for those wanting to build on a first lesson, and bespoke sessions from £15.

One thing to know before you go: there's a rocky path down to the water from the meeting point, so proper shoes matter, flip flops won't cut it. There's no dedicated changing room either, though you can use the equipment store if you need to get changed. Neither is a dealbreaker, but they're the kind of detail that catches people out on the day.

Parking is free for 3 hours at Devils Point, which is generous, though the site is upfront that it gets busy at weekends and through summer, so don't leave it too tight. The Shack does organic coffee on site if you fancy warming up afterwards, and Royal William Yard nearby has more options if you want to make a proper morning of it.
