What it’s like

Sail an authentic replica of the boat from Channel 4's Mutiny, with wild swimming, paddleboarding and overnight camping trips for ages 8 and up.

This is the actual replica of Captain Bligh's open launch used in Channel 4's Mutiny, the one Conrad and his crew sailed 3,600 miles across the Pacific. You don't need any sailing experience to get involved. Conrad and the crew run the boat, but you're welcome to take the helm or raise the sails yourself, or just sit back and let it happen.

The Young Explorers Sailing Experience is the entry point at £42.50 for a child, and it's aimed at 8 to 16 year olds, so this isn't one for younger kids. From there it climbs steeply. The Sail & Wild Swim option adds paddleboarding and open water swimming for £195, and if your child fancies it, they'll need to be a confident swimmer, comfortable doing 50 metres in open water. At the top end there's a £395 Sail & Explore the Tamar Valley trip, and overnight options that stretch to wild camping at Mount Edgcumbe or glamping in fitted bell tents at the Sea Forts, sleeping bags and food included.

A visit can be as short as three hours or run to 48 hours if you go for one of the camping trips, so it's worth thinking about how much day (or weekend) you actually want to give over to this. Lifejackets are sorted for the 8 to 14 age bracket, but if your child is under 8 you'll need to enquire before booking rather than just turning up and paying. Parking's free on site, and you register your car when you arrive.

The FSM-funded school places are a nice touch if that applies to you, and Conrad also does school visits bringing ocean adventures into the classroom. For everyone else, this reads as a proper adventure rather than a bob-about-the-harbour trip, with the price tags to match.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

The Young Explorers Sailing Experience for a child is £42.50. Bigger trips like the Sail & Wild Swim day go up to £195, and the Tamar Valley voyage is £395.

What age is this suitable for?

The Young Explorers programme is built for 8 to 16 year olds. Under 8s can come but you need to enquire before booking so they can sort lifejackets and safety.

Do we need sailing experience?

None at all. The crew handles the boat and you can take the helm or just relax, first-timers are welcome on every trip.

Can my child paddleboard from the boat?

Yes, on the Sail & Wild Swim and Tamar Valley experiences, with boards available to hire on the day. They'll need to manage a 50 metre swim in open water first.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

Safety comes first, so you'll be offered a different date or a full refund if a new time doesn't work for you.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site, you just register your vehicle when you arrive.
