Polperro Model Village
WHERE
Looe
What it’s like
A walk round a shrunk-down version of the real fishing village, with Cornish myths and legends woven in.
The model itself is Polperro shrunk right down, so you can wander round the little harbour, the cottages and the streets in a fraction of the time it takes to do the real thing down the hill. Alongside the tiny buildings there's a run of Cornish myths and legends worked into the visit, which lifts it above just spotting which house is which.
It's a fair-weather sort of visit rather than an all-year one. The site only opens from Easter through to November, and even then it shuts on Saturdays in September and on Fridays and Saturdays in October, so if you're planning an autumn trip it's worth pinning down the actual day of the week before you set off. Doors open at half ten and it runs through to 5pm on the days it's open, which gives you a decent stretch of a day without needing to rush.
There's a car park right on site as you come into Polperro, which takes the stress out of arriving on foot with a buggy or tired legs. Given the pace, it suits a fairly relaxed wander more than a big day out on its own.

Plan your visit
When's it open?
Easter through to November, 10.30am to 5pm. It's closed Saturdays in September and Fridays and Saturdays in October, so double check the day if you're going late in the season.
What do the kids actually do?
Wander round a miniature version of Polperro's harbour and streets, with Cornish myths and legends folded into the visit rather than just looking at small houses.
Is there parking?
A car park sits right on site as you enter Polperro, so you're not hunting for a space in the village itself.
Can we go in winter?
No, it only runs from Easter to November, so it's off the list once the season ends.
