Looe Sea Safari
BEST FOR
Ages 2+
WHERE
Looe
What it’s like
Speedboat trips out from Looe seafront hunting seals, dolphins and bluefin tuna, from a quick 20 minutes to a full two hours.
You're out on a fast open boat looking for seals hauled up on the rocks, dolphins riding the wake, and bluefin tuna breaking the surface if you're lucky, with seabirds wheeling overhead the whole way. Trips run from a short 20 minute blast to a longer two hour outing, so you can pick something that suits a short attention span or go long if everyone's keen.
It's a proper boat trip rather than a gentle pootle. The site is upfront that it can be bouncy depending on the sea, and you'll likely get some spray on a windier day, so an extra layer is worth packing even in summer. That bounce is also why it's a no for pregnant women or anyone with back trouble, and why there's no wheelchair access, since the boat itself just isn't set up for it.
Kids from age two are allowed on, though the site leaves it to you to judge whether your own two-year-old will enjoy being thrown about a bit at speed. An older kid who's happy on a fairground ride will probably think this is the best bit of the holiday. Trips can get cancelled if the weather turns or if a boat doesn't hit its minimum of four passengers, in which case you're rebooked or refunded within a fortnight.
There's no parking right outside the shop on the seafront. Looe gets properly busy in season, so build that walk into your timing rather than turning up five minutes before you're due out.

Plan your visit
Will we get wet?
There's a decent chance of sea spray, especially if it's windy, since the boat moves at speed in the open air. Pack a coat even on a warm day, it's cooler out on the water than it looks from the seafront.
What age is it suitable for?
They'll take kids from age two, but it's really down to you to decide if your child will cope with a fast, bouncy ride. Older kids who like a bit of speed tend to be the ones who get the most out of it.
What if the trip gets cancelled?
Poor weather or not enough passengers can mean a trip's called off. You'll be offered a different date first, and a full refund within 14 days if that doesn't work for you.
Where do we park?
Buller Quay car park, PL13 1DX, is the nearest option. Millpool car park is about a 15 minute walk away if Buller Quay's full, and Looe can get packed out in season so leave extra time.
Can wheelchair users come on the trip?
Unfortunately not, the boat itself just isn't built for wheelchair access.
