Pencoedtre Park
WHERE
Barry
What it’s like
A free splash pad plus a skate park, toddler area and games court, all in one open park with parking on site.
The splash pad is the main event once summer hits, running from late May through to September, and it's the sort of thing you can turn up to without booking anything or paying anything at the gate. There's a toddler play area set apart from the water for the smaller ones who aren't quite ready to get soaked, and if you've got an older child who'd rather be on wheels, the skateboard park is right there too.
The multi-use games area rounds it out, a basketball and five-a-side court that's handy if you've come as a bigger group and someone gets bored of the water after twenty minutes. It means you're not just there for one thing, so a visit can stretch out over a good chunk of the afternoon if the weather holds.
Parking is free and there's plenty of it, accessed off Pencoedtre Road, which takes the stress out of arriving without a ticket machine to wrestle with. It's an outdoor, open-air setup, so a warm dry day is when this park earns its keep.
