What it’s like

Free rotating exhibitions of paintings, photography, textiles and sculpture, plus the odd artist talk thrown in.

Wander round changing displays of paintings, photography, textiles and mixed media, all free to get into. The exhibitions rotate, so what's on the walls in spring won't be what's there by autumn, which makes it worth a repeat trip rather than a one-off.

Some visits line up with artist talks or performances, and those are the ones worth planning around if you can. There's nothing here that's built for kids specifically, so it suits ones who can cope with a gallery pace rather than a dash-about one, but there's no charge for getting it wrong and leaving after ten minutes if it doesn't land.

Hours shift a fair bit through the year. Spring and summer weekdays it's open 9:30am to 4:30pm, with Saturdays finishing earlier at 3:30 or 4pm depending on the month. Come September the weekday hours stretch right out to 6:30pm, which is handy if you fancy an after-school look, though Saturday stays on the shorter side. It's shut on Sundays, so that's one day to cross off the list.
