What it’s like
A small white timber church by the water where you wander the art on show and hear how it once served Norwegian sailors, then grab cake in the café.
This one is more a quiet wander than a day out. You pop in to see whatever exhibition or art event is on, and there's usually something to say about the building itself, a former church built for Norwegian sailors passing through the docks. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy stop to fold into a longer walk around the bay rather than something you plan a whole day round.
There isn't a set list of things for kids to do beyond looking at the art and picking up bits of the building's history, so it suits a curious child happy to look and listen rather than one after hands-on activities. Twenty minutes to half an hour covers most visits unless the exhibition really grabs you.
The café is genuinely worth the stop on its own, with pastries, Welsh cakes and a street-food menu that includes a Yorkshire Wrap and a Tiger Bay Pantry option, plus vegan choices. One thing to know before you queue up: it's card only, no cash accepted, so leave the coins at home.
It's step-free throughout with a disabled toilet and ramped access, and there's pay and display parking right outside, though it's capped at three hours so it won't suit an all-day stay anyway. Because the building hosts private events, opening hours can shift or it can close early without much warning.
