What it’s like
Three heated outdoor pools plus a play park with slides, swings and tunnels for the bits when they've had enough of swimming.
The pools are heated, which matters when you're stood there in a British summer wondering if you've made a mistake bringing swimwear. There are three of them, so you can shuffle between the deeper water for confident swimmers and the shallower stuff for smaller kids without anyone getting out of their depth.
Once they're done with the water, Lido Play next door is the bit that'll actually get remembered: swings, slides, tunnels and climbing equipment built as its own little adventure park. There's also a more classic play area with swings, slides, seesaws and balancing equipment for the ones who want a slower pace or a bit of imaginative play away from the crowds. Between the two, you've got a decent stretch of a visit before anyone's asking to go home.
If the weather turns or you fancy a break from being wet, the Visitor Centre has an interactive games table and history displays, which is a nice quiet corner to dry off in without leaving the site. There's a café on site too, and the whole place is wheelchair accessible, so getting round with a buggy or a wheelchair shouldn't be a fight.
Birthday parties get their own first-floor function room, hired out privately, which is worth knowing if you're after somewhere other than a soft play unit for a party this year.
