What it’s like

Free photography exhibitions in a small gallery by the waterfront, with a quiet hour on Sunday mornings.

This is a photography gallery, so what's on the walls changes with whatever exhibition is running, and entry costs nothing. Gallery assistants are around to give you a brief introduction to the current show if you want one, which is a nice touch if you're not sure what you're looking at.

If crowds and noise aren't your thing, Sunday mornings from 10 to 12 are set aside as quiet hours, worth building your visit around if you'd rather browse without the bustle. Otherwise it's open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, and there's a Digital Window Gallery you can see even outside those hours.

Groups can book a more detailed 45-minute tour of the exhibition for £4 a head, though you need to sort that in advance using their group booking form rather than turning up and hoping. There's a small independent shop on site too, with 10% off for students who show ID.

Getting there is straightforward if you're on foot or public transport. James Street station is two minutes away, and there's metered parking right opposite on Mann Island if you're driving, or the Q-Park at Liverpool ONE a short walk off.
