What it’s like
A three floor trawl through Beatles history, from Liverpool clubs to Hamburg and the studio years, with over 1000 original items.
This is a walk-through timeline rather than a hands-on museum: you move floor by floor from the early Liverpool and Hamburg days through to the band's rise and their studio years, with more than 1000 original items along the way. For a ten-year-old who's been made to sit through the albums in the car, seeing the actual objects lands differently. It's less suited to anyone under five, and the museum's own age guide starts at five for that reason.
The ticket price is the thing to know before you go. £20 for an adult and £8.50 for a child under 16 adds up, though the family ticket at £50 for two adults and two children takes some of the sting out if you're a four. It's open every day, 10am to 5pm, and there's no booking link listed, so it looks like a straightforward turn-up-and-pay visit.
Getting there is easy enough on foot. Victoria Street multi storey car park is about four minutes' walk, and if you're coming by public transport Morefields Station is seven minutes away and the Whitechapel bus stop just three. Given it's three floors of exhibits to work through, expect this to take a proper chunk of your afternoon rather than a quick stop.
