What it’s like
Free galleries with art installations, an arthouse cinema, and a monthly relaxed screening built for families who need the lights left up.
Wander the galleries and you won't pay a penny, they're free to walk round Wednesday to Sunday, 11 till 6, full of art installations that change often enough to be worth a second visit. Monday and Tuesday they're shut, which is a genuine trap if you've turned up on a whim, so check what day it is before you promise anyone an outing.
The cinema is where the money goes. £15 for an adult, £3 for anyone up to 14, and a matinee ticket shaves the adult price down to £13.50, though the child price stays at £3 either way. There's a proper relaxed screening programme too: a new release every second Monday, a family-friendly film every third Sunday, and a classic with an interval on the last Friday of the month, all with the lights low and the volume down so nobody has to sit rigid and shush anyone.
Moi Bakeshop opens earlier than the galleries do, from 9 on weekdays, so you can get breakfast and a coffee sorted before anything else opens up. There's a lift to every floor and dedicated wheelchair spaces in each of the four screens, which makes it an easy building to move around with a buggy or a wheelchair. The one real gripe is parking, there's no car park attached, though nearby ones exist and there's disabled parking close by on Wood Street and Bold Street.
If you're coming by train it's an easy walk in, Liverpool Central is a few minutes away and Lime Street isn't much further. Bike parking is right outside on Ropewalks Square if that's how you're getting there.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost to get in?
The galleries cost nothing at all. Cinema is £15 for an adult and £3 for a child up to 14, with matinees knocking the adult price down to £13.50.
Do we need to book ahead?
There's no booking link here, so it sounds like turning up works, though you'd want to grab cinema tickets before a popular showing sells out.
What are the gallery opening times?
Closed Monday and Tuesday, then 11 till 6 the rest of the week. Easy to forget and turn up on the wrong day, so it's worth double checking before you set off.
Is there a relaxed or sensory-friendly screening?
Yes, monthly and there's a choice: a new release every second Monday, a family film every third Sunday, and a classic with an interval on the last Friday. Lights stay low, volume's turned down, and you can move around.
Is there parking nearby?
No car park attached to the building itself, but there are others close by, and disabled spaces sit on Wood Street and Bold Street and round the back.
Can we get food there?
Moi Bakeshop does breakfasts, coffee, lunches and bakes, and opens before the galleries do most days. The Picturehouse Bar runs from midday if you fancy a drink with your film.
Is the building wheelchair accessible?
Every floor, screen and gallery is reachable, there's a lift throughout and each of the four cinema screens has a dedicated wheelchair space.
Can we bring a dog?
Guide dogs are welcome throughout. If you're bringing one to a screening, mention it when booking so they can sort an aisle seat.
How do we get there by public transport?
Liverpool Central is about three minutes on foot and Lime Street is roughly twelve minutes away. There's bike parking right outside on Ropewalks Square too.
What's actually on for kids?
Free exhibitions and installations to wander round, plus family-friendly films in the cinema and the monthly relaxed screening aimed squarely at families.
How long does a visit take?
The galleries alone are a lighter visit, maybe an hour of wandering. Add a film and you're looking at half a day, especially if you stop for food first.
