What it’s like
A free woodland and meadow park for walking, duck feeding and picnics, open round the clock with no entry fee.
Woodland paths, meadows and a run of brooks and pools make up most of the walking here, and that's really the point of the place rather than a single big feature you're aiming for. Kids gravitate to feeding the ducks, and there's a children's play area if the walking alone doesn't hold their attention long enough.
It costs nothing to get in and nothing to park, which for a park this size is the sort of deal you don't question too hard. About 80 cars fit at the main entrance, and since it's open 24 hours there's no gate to catch you out or a last-entry time to watch the clock for.
The catch is there are no toilets anywhere on site, which matters more with a toddler than it does on a solo walk, so factor that in before you set off. Picnics are properly welcomed though, with a picnic area right by the car park and a grassy field near Priory Pool if you fancy walking a bit further in first. Dogs are welcome on leads too, so it works for a family walk with the dog in tow as easily as it does for buggies on the flatter paths.
There's no set route you have to follow, which makes it an easy one to shrink or stretch depending on how tired everyone already is by the time you arrive.

Plan your visit

Nothing at all, and parking's free too, with room for about 80 cars at the main entrance.
What time does it open and close?
It doesn't, really, the park's open 24 hours a day.
Are there toilets on site?
None, so sort that out before you leave the house.
Can we bring a picnic?
That's more or less the plan. There's a picnic spot next to the car park and a grassy field near Priory Pool for those who want to walk a bit first.
Is it okay to bring the dog?
Dogs are welcome on leads, just clean up after them and keep them under control near the ducks.
Can we park overnight?
No, overnight parking isn't allowed even though the park itself never closes.
