What it’s like
Free rhyme time sessions and stories for babies and toddlers, with reading groups for older kids too.
Rhyme Time is the main event here: babies and toddlers get songs, stories and a bit of a singalong, and it's free to turn up to. There are reading groups running alongside it too, so if you've got an older one who wants a book club feel rather than nursery rhymes, that's covered as well.
It's open most days but the hours shift about, so a Tuesday visit looks different from a Saturday one. Mondays and Thursdays you get the longest window, 10 till 5, while Wednesdays close at 4 and Saturdays wrap up at 3. Sundays it's shut, which catches people out if the library is your default wet-weekend plan.
Getting in is straightforward if you need a bit of help. There's blue badge parking close to the entrance and the building itself is wheelchair accessible, so a buggy or a wheelchair isn't going to be a problem. Wifi's there too if you want to sit with a coffee while the little one naps mid-visit.
There's no cost to any of it, which makes it an easy one to slot into a morning without any planning. It won't fill a whole day out, but for a rainy hour with a toddler who wants stories and songs, it does the job without any faff.
