Kinley Hill Pumpkin Patch
ENTRY
from £2
WHERE
Seaham
What it’s like
Pick your own pumpkin off the vine, then walk it down to the coast for a look at the sea.
You wander the patch with a wheelbarrow (they provide them) and pick your own pumpkin straight off the plant, small ones from £2 up to £10 for the big showpiece ones. There are different varieties dotted about, so it's worth a proper walk round rather than grabbing the first one you see. Once you've paid, the site backs onto coastal walks, so a pumpkin patch visit can turn into a proper stretch of the legs if the weather's playing along.
If you're coming by car, you do need to book ahead, that's a health and safety rule they're firm about, not just a suggestion. It costs £5 per car, not per person, and it comes off your pumpkin bill rather than sitting on top of it. If you're walking or getting dropped off with no car, you can skip booking altogether and just turn up on your chosen day. Parking is free and right by the patch, and they take cash and card.
Dogs are welcome with no restrictions on breed or size, as long as they're well behaved and do their business off the patch rather than on it, which feels like a fair ask. There are toilets on site, but no baby change facilities and no accessible toilet for wheelchair users, worth knowing if either of those affects your visit.
