What it’s like
Volcano slides, cannon-ball arenas and a toddler village keep 0 to 14s busy for a 90-minute session in Newcastle.
The big frame is the obvious draw here, with volcano slides and tubby slides for the ones who want height and speed, plus a cannon-ball arena that pulls in adults too (the £2 grown-up ticket gets you a go on that one, which is a nice touch). Under-fours get their own toddler village away from the bigger kids, so a wobbly one-year-old isn't sharing space with a confident seven-year-old barrelling past.
Your admission buys 90 minutes, and they're strict about it: you get a coloured wristband and they call you out when time's up. Prices shift depending on when you go. Term-time weekdays are the cheaper option at £8 to £12 depending on age, while weekends and school holidays bump a 5 to 14-year-old up to £15. If you've got a toddler and fancy something calmer, Toddler Time on term-time weekdays is £7.50 and comes with juice and biscuits included.
Socks are compulsory in the play areas and shoes come off at the door, so pack a spare pair if yours always seem to vanish on the way out. No outside food is allowed in, baby food aside, but there's a café on site doing burgers, paninis and loaded fries if you want to make a proper lunch of it. Weekends and school holidays get properly busy between 12 and 3:30, so an early or late slot is the better bet if you want room to actually use the slides.
Birthday parties run from £15 to £17 a head and include the 90 minutes of play plus 30 minutes of food in a party room, though you'll need at least 10 children booked in and the deposit isn't refundable if plans change. There's parking on site with disabled bays at the front, and wheelchair access throughout, though the party rooms upstairs at some of the other Fun Shack sites are stairs-only.
