What it’s like
Free Bookbug sessions and shelves of books for little ones, with digital help on hand for the grown-ups too.
Bookbug is the main draw here, sessions built for babies, toddlers and under-fives with songs and stories rather than a silent reading room. It's free, and for a wet Tuesday afternoon with a toddler who's bored of the house, that's about as good value as a day out gets.
Beyond the sessions there's just the library itself, thousands of books to pick through and a chance to let a four-year-old choose their own pile for once. There's wifi and indoor seating if you want to sit and read together rather than rush off, and the baby change and breastfeeding-friendly spaces mean you're not planning the visit around a feed.
If you need a hand with anything digital, Digi-PALS runs one-to-one sessions, useful if you're trying to sort out an online form with a baby on your hip. Opening hours stretch later on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8pm, which is handy if mornings are chaos, but it's shut on Sundays so don't turn up expecting a quiet Sunday browse.
There's no on-site car park, so you're relying on street parking or walking in, and only assistance dogs are allowed inside if you're used to bringing the family dog along on errands.
