What it’s like

A free, quiet library with Bookbug sessions for babies and under-fives, plus books to browse on a wet afternoon.

This is a proper local library rather than an attraction, and that's the appeal on a grey day when you need somewhere free and indoors that won't cost you a thing to get wrong. The main draw for younger kids is Bookbug, the rhyme and story sessions aimed at babies, toddlers and under-fives, alongside regular book groups and reading activities for older children.

There's no entry fee, and the building has the basics sorted: accessible toilets, baby change, wifi, and it's fine for breastfeeding. Wheelchair access is straightforward too. Tuesday and Thursday evenings run later, to 8pm, which is handy if mornings never work for you, but Sunday it's shut completely.

Don't expect a car park. There isn't one on site, so you're looking at street parking or the bus if you're coming any distance. For a Bookbug session or a quiet browse this is a low-key, low-cost outing rather than a big day out, and it suits a shorter visit, an hour or so, rather than filling an afternoon.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Entry's free and so are the Bookbug sessions.

Is it suitable for a toddler?

The Bookbug sessions are aimed at babies, toddlers and children under five, so that age group is well looked after.

Do we need to book for Bookbug?

There's nothing here about needing to book, so turning up on the day looks like the way it works.

Is there parking?

No car park on site, so you'll want street parking or the bus.

What are the opening hours?

10am to 5pm most days, but Tuesday and Thursday it stays open till 8pm. Closed on Sundays.

Can we bring a wheelchair or buggy?

The building's wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets on site. Some Glasgow Life venues also have wheelchairs available to borrow, worth asking at this one directly.
