What it’s like

Free Bookbug sessions of songs and rhymes for under-fives, plus weekly classes, in a library open till 8pm twice a week.

This is a proper working library, and the main reason to bring a small child along is Bookbug: songs, stories and rhymes aimed at under-fives, and it's free like everything else here. If your toddler is at the age where they'll sit still for ten minutes of singing and then need to toddle off and pull books off a shelf, this is a low-stakes place to let that happen.

There are weekly classes and events beyond Bookbug too, so it's worth being on their radar rather than a one-off visit. Opening hours are generous for a library, with Tuesday and Thursday running till 8pm, which is handy if your day doesn't fit neatly into a 10 to 5 slot. The rest of the week it shuts at 5, and it's closed Sundays, so plan around that if you're hoping for a weekend browse.

It's all indoors and fully accessible, with a baby change and an accessible toilet on site, and wifi if you need to sit and work while the kids are occupied. The one real catch is that there's no on-site car parking. Assistance dogs are welcome, other animals aren't, and some Glasgow Life venues have wheelchairs you can borrow if you ring ahead to check this one does.
