What it’s like

A three-zone soft play by age, with an upstairs football pitch and slides for the juniors while babies get their own separate area.

There's a proper split by age here rather than one big free-for-all. Babies up to 18 months get their own area away from the bigger kids, then there's a toddler zone and a junior zone with slides and, the bit that'll get mentioned on the way home, a football pitch up on the top storey. That's a decent spread for a soft play, so a family with a baby and a ten-year-old in tow isn't stuck choosing between two different venues.

Ages run right up to 10, which is older than a lot of soft plays bother catering for, so it's got a bit more staying power before your eldest declares themselves too cool for it. Worth knowing that Wednesdays start later, with soft play not opening till 10am because of staff training, and general access shuts at 3.30pm on Tuesdays to set up for an ASN soft play session, so those are two days to plan around rather than just turning up whenever.

It's inside the Royal Commonwealth Pool building, so if you're already there for a swim it's an easy add-on rather than a separate trip. There's a café on site, free parking, and wifi if you want to sit with a coffee while the kids run themselves ragged upstairs. Access is properly thought through too: unassisted wheelchair access, disabled parking, toilets and showers, ramps and internal lifts throughout, and it's on the Lothian Buses 2, 14 and 30 routes if you're not driving.
