What it’s like

Nets, ropes and a 70 metre zipwire in the woods at Baggeridge Country Park, with courses graded by age from four upwards.

The nets course is the one for younger ones, an obstacle course with a bouldering wall and treehouses that starts from age four. Once they're five they can have a go on the low ropes, and from seven the 3m and 9m high ropes courses open up, along with the climbing wall and totem pole climbs. The 70 metre zipwire and PowerFan Descender are the bit they'll be talking about on the way home, though there's a 16 stone weight limit on both, so it's one for the kids rather than the parent trying to relive their youth.

Public sessions run 12pm to 3pm and you can turn up on the day if there's space, but they're upfront that booking online first is the safer bet. Turn up at least 15 minutes early too, since you have to catch the safety briefing at the start or you might not get to take part at all, which feels harsh if you've just fought traffic to get there. An adult has to stay for the whole session to handle the consent forms and keep an eye on things, so this isn't a drop-and-run activity.

It's all-weather, which is good news for a UK school holiday, though they will shut the course in high winds, thunder or lightning and will ring you the morning of your booking if that's the case. Parking is pay-and-display at Baggeridge Country Park itself, run by the council rather than Challenge Academy, so keep some coins or the app handy.

Birthday parties come in three tiers, from £125 for the Nets Adventure package up to £300 for Access All, with extra guests added on top. Parties need booking in advance and run at weekends and in school holidays, same as everything else here really.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Parties start at £125 for the Nets Adventure package, rising to £220 for High Ropes and £300 for Access All, with extra guests charged separately.

Do we need to book?

You can turn up to a public session and join if there's space, but booking online first secures your slot. Parties always need booking ahead.

What age does my child need to be?

Four for the nets course, five for low ropes, and seven for the high ropes course. There's also a 16 stone weight limit on the zipwire and PowerFan.

What if it's raining?

The courses are built for all-weather use and mostly stay open in the rain. They'll close for high winds, thunder or lightning and call you on the morning if your booking's affected.

Is there parking?

Yes, at Baggeridge Country Park, but it's pay-and-display run by the council rather than Challenge Academy.

Do parents have to stay?

One adult over 18 needs to stay for the whole session to sign consent forms and supervise. Other family members can watch.

What time do public sessions run?

12pm to 3pm. Get there at least 15 minutes early or you could miss the safety briefing and not be allowed to take part.

Can we book a birthday party?

Online or by emailing the team, and it's available at weekends and school holidays.

Where exactly is it?

Baggeridge Country Park in Sedgley, about five miles south of Wolverhampton, down by the lower car park below the Park Café.
