Birmingham

What it’s like

A Bavarian-style beer hall and restaurant in the city centre where kids can join you for food, but only until early evening.

This one's really a restaurant with a live music, beer-hall personality, and that shapes when it works for a family meal. Kids are welcome to eat in, but there's a firm cut-off: out by 8pm Monday to Thursday, and 6pm on Friday to Sunday. So a Sunday lunch or an early tea midweek is the move, not a Saturday night out.

After those times it switches to an over-21s policy from 6pm on Fridays through Sundays, and they do ID checks on anyone who looks under 25, so this genuinely is a daytime and early-evening spot for families rather than an all-hours one. Worth building your visit around that clock rather than finding out at the door.

The building itself is step-free throughout with accessible toilets on the ground floor, and it's a short walk from any of the three main Birmingham train stations if you're coming in without a car. There's parking listed too, which is handy given the city centre location. If you've got a small, non-barking dog, it can come along until 7pm, though not into the restaurant area itself.

Big groups need to book ahead and there are restrictions on fancy dress and large single-sex parties, so a spontaneous walk-in with fifteen people won't work here. For a smaller family booking though, it reads as straightforward: get there in daylight hours, eat, enjoy the Bavarian beer hall atmosphere, and be gone before the evening policy kicks in.
