Farms & Petting Farms in Cardiff

Cardiff itself is short on farmyards, so the closest option is Forest Farm Country Park, free to wander, with muddy woodland paths, bird hides and the canal for spotting damselflies. For proper animals and playbarns, most families head further out. A drive out to Bristol brings you to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Wraxall, from £13.20, with picnic areas and a full day of outdoor space, or Lawrence Weston Community Farm, a free working city farm where kids get hands-on with gardening and animals six days a week. If you want free and outdoorsy, Forest Farm costs nothing but there is no farmyard as such. For a proper petting farm day, Raglan Farm Park out in Usk (from £7, ages 1-11) has forty acres and an indoor play barn for wet days. Toddlers do well at Puxton Park in Weston-super-Mare (from £6, ages 2-16), which adds go-carts and tractor rides for older siblings. Doniford Farm Park in Watchet is free to walk round, with a small charge for the indoor playbarn, a longer trip but worth it for a full day out.
