What it’s like
Free entry to a working city farm where kids can get hands-on with animals and gardening, open six days a week.
There's no admission charge here, which is unusual for a farm with actual livestock and growing space to look after. Kids get stuck into the gardening and general farm life rather than just peering at animals through a fence, and the site talks about clubs and activities that sound like they're meant for a proper go, not a five-minute stroke of a goat.
The hard standing path means a buggy or wheelchair can get round without a fight, so it's not one of those farms where you end up carrying the pushchair over a muddy field. Picnics are allowed on site too, which is handy since there's nothing here about a café.
It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 to 4:30, so Mondays are out. Parking is on site but it's a small car park, so if you're coming at a popular time you might end up circling for a space or parking further along the road.
Given it's free, this is an easy one to slot into a morning without committing to a full day out. You could treat it as a warm-up before something bigger, or just let the kids potter about the gardens and animal areas for an hour or two without worrying about ticket prices.
