Country Parks & Nature Reserves in Birmingham
Birmingham isn't short on hills and woods to disappear into for an afternoon, and the two here cover both ends of the city. Waseley Hills Country Park is a drive out from the centre but free to get into, with hills to climb, an adventure play area and waymarked trails, plus a café for when everyone's flagged. Closer in, Warley Woods in Smethwick is also free, with a play area, trails good for a muddy wander, and sledging slopes that come into their own if it snows. Both are free, so the choice comes down to what sort of day you fancy. Warley Woods suits a quicker visit with younger children, being nearer the centre with an easy loop and somewhere to grab a coffee. Waseley Hills is the one for a proper outing, with more ground to cover and actual hills for older kids to tackle, plus parking and an accessible toilet on site. Dogs are welcome at both, so no need to leave them behind.
