Gardens & Arboretums in Plymouth
Plymouth isn't overrun with big botanic names, but there's a proper garden to walk right in the centre. Drake's Place sits by the old reservoir and doesn't cost a penny to get in, so you can wander the paths, let the kids have a go on the table tennis table, and stop for a coffee at the cafe without spending anything beyond that. There are toilets and wheelchair access too, which makes it an easy first stop. For something less about walking and more about pottering, Plymouth Garden Centre is a short drive out from the centre. It's not a garden you explore so much as a browse round the plants and gifts, with a café for cake afterwards, and it's open every day of the week. If you want fresh air and space to roam, Drake's Place is the one to pick. If you fancy a slower morning that ends in cake, save the garden centre for that.
