WHERE

Plymouth

What it’s like

Free gardens by an old reservoir where you can wander the paths and play a game of table tennis on the house.

There's a table tennis table with rackets and balls provided free, which is the sort of detail that turns a quick walk into an actual afternoon out. Beyond that it's gardens and a reservoir to explore, paths to wander, and space for kids to poke about without you spending anything to get in.

It's an outdoor spot, so a dry day helps, but there's a café on site if you need a coffee or the kids need feeding, and toilets close by. Wheelchair access is there too, and it's flat and open enough for a buggy without much trouble.

Getting there without a car is easy. Plymouth Railway Station is a few minutes' walk from the campus and the coach station about ten minutes, so it works well if you're combining it with a train trip rather than driving in and hunting for parking.

Free entry with no booking needed makes it an easy one to slot in, whether you've got twenty minutes to spare or fancy making a proper visit of it with a picnic on the grass.
