What it’s like
Climbing frames, ball pits and rope bridges for two-hour sessions, with a strict socks-on, shoes-off rule at the door.
The climbing frame with its slides is the obvious draw, but it's the roller squeezes and rope bridges that tend to get the retelling on the way home. There are ball pits too, and the whole play arena is fenced off from the baby and toddler bit so the smaller ones aren't getting mown down by a determined six-year-old. A height limit of 4'9" applies in the main arena, which is worth knowing if you've got a tall nine or ten-year-old who might not get much use out of a visit.
Sessions run for two hours, and you're supposed to book online to guarantee a spot, though walk-ups are fine when it's quiet. Weekends split into set slots rather than one long stretch, so check which one you're aiming for before you leave the house. If you want the quiet version of this place, early morning or teatime at the weekend is the move. Between 11 and 3.30 it's the busiest and you'll feel it.
Shoes come off at the door and socks are compulsory, no exceptions mentioned for forgetting yours. You can't bring your own food in either, aside from baby food or for anyone with allergies, which is a bit of a faff if you'd planned on packing lunch, but there's an on-site café doing breakfast through to afternoon service so it's not the end of the world. Parking is free front and back, and there's a bus stop and Bache train station both a short walk away if you're coming without a car.
Parents are expected to supervise throughout rather than sit back with a coffee the whole time, and there's a three-strike behaviour policy if things get out of hand. Birthday parties get a two-hour slot with a party feast, and there's a Platinum Party option if you want the whole centre to yourselves.
