What it’s like

Soft play with a separate toddler and baby corner, outdoor play in summer, and a café that does a proper jacket potato.

The main soft play is where the older ones will head first, and if you've got a nine-year-old who still wants a climb about, there's room for them here too. Babies and toddlers get their own dedicated area away from the bigger kids, which matters more than it sounds when you've got a six-month-old trying to army-crawl past a stampede of seven-year-olds. When the weather plays along there's outdoor play too, during the summer months.

The pricing is broken down by age rather than one flat fee, which is fair enough given a six-month-old and a six-year-old get very different amounts of use out of the place. Under sixes months is free, it creeps up through the toddler bands, and settles at £7 for two years and over. Adults and over-nines pay a token £1, which is the kind of detail that makes bringing an older sibling along an easy yes.

The café covers paninis, jacket potatoes and sweet treats, and the Eat & Play combo at £9 bundles a children's meal with cordial in with your entry, which saves you queuing twice. Booking isn't compulsory, they take walk-ups, but they do recommend booking ahead for weekends and school holidays, so if you're planning a Saturday morning session it's the sensible move.

Birthday parties are clearly a big part of what they do, with packages from £150 up to £450 covering food, drink and entertainment. The birthday child gets a free return visit too, which is a nice touch if the party itself goes by in a blur, as parties tend to.
