What it’s like

A valley theme park with watercoasters, a twister ride, indoor play and a zoo farm with falconry displays.

This one's built into a valley, so expect proper hills rather than flat paths, and the rides spread out across the slopes rather than clustering round a car park. The watercoasters and the twister ride are the big draws, the sort of thing an eight-year-old will bring up on the drive home, and there's a zoo farm with animals plus falconry displays if you want a slower half hour between the wet bits. Indoor play covers you if the Devon weather turns, which in this part of the world it will at some point in the day.

The park opens at 9:30am in the main season with rides starting at 10am, running to 5pm, though winter hours shrink to 10:30am to 4:30pm and only run weekends and Devon school holidays. Admission covers entry and use of the rides, though the site is upfront that a few things sit outside that: Safari Adventure Golf, Teddy Mountain and the coin-operated amusements are separate, and height restrictions apply on rides. Worth knowing there's a 7-day wristband that lets you upgrade a day ticket for free return visits within the week, handy if the first day gets rained off.

Parking is free and there's plenty of it, with staff directing you in. Picnics are allowed if you'd rather bring your own lunch than rely on Loves Grove Café by the watercoasters or the Courtyard Café at the farm, though not every café runs all year. Lockers are dotted around the park at 20p a go, and no loose items are allowed on the rides or slides, so that locker fee is basically compulsory if you've got bags or coats to stash.

One thing to flag before you buy tickets: there are no refunds on any purchase, full stop, so a change of plan on the day means a lost ticket rather than a rebooked one. There's also no wheelchair hire on site, which is a real gap given how hilly the place is.

Worth knowing
7-day wristband: upgrade day ticket for free return visits 6 days
  • The park sits on a slope, so pushchairs and buggies will get a proper workout going between rides.
  • A 7-day wristband lets you turn a single day ticket into free return visits for six more days.
  • Height restrictions apply on some rides, so check before promising a child a go on everything.
  • Some rides close during off-peak weekdays and winter, so the full lineup is a main-season thing.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

The site lists admission as covering entry and the rides, with children under 92cm admitted free. Prices themselves aren't given, but there's a discounted rate for guests with disabilities rather than free carer entry.

Do we need to book?

No booking is needed, you can just turn up.

What are the opening times?

Main season the park opens at 9:30am and rides from 10am, closing at 5pm. In winter it's 10:30am to 4:30pm, weekends and Devon school holidays only.

Is it open all year?

It runs daily from Easter to the end of October half-term, then drops to weekends and school holidays through winter. There's also a Christmas Grotto on selected dates.

Is there parking and is it free?

Parking is free and there's plenty of space, with staff on hand to guide you in.

Can we bring a picnic?

Picnics are allowed anywhere in the park.

What food is on site?

Loves Grove Café sits by the watercoasters and the Courtyard Café is at the farm, plus ice cream and drink kiosks depending on the weather. Not every café is guaranteed open, it depends on the season and how busy it is.

Is the park suitable for a wheelchair user?

There's no wheelchair hire on site, and the valley location means steep hills throughout the park.

Are there lockers?

In the Empire of the Sea Dragon, Circus Drome and upstairs in Lovesgrove café, at 20p per use. No loose items are allowed on rides or slides, so they're worth using.

What if I need to cancel my ticket?

There are no refunds on any ticket purchase, so it is worth being sure of your date before you buy.
