Windygates

What it’s like

Pick your own strawberries straight from the fields at a farm shop near Windygates, open late May to mid September.

The main event here is strawberries, picked by hand from the fields rather than bought in a punnet. It's a simple sort of morning out: you wander the rows, fill a basket, and the kids get to see exactly where fruit comes from before it turns up on a plate. No big rides or mazes to speak of, just the picking itself, which is honestly the point.

Strawberry season runs late May until mid September, so it's not a year-round trip. The wider farm shop stays open a bit longer, from mid May through to early November, seven days a week between 9am and 5pm.

Once you're done in the fields, the Berrylicious stall sells fresh fruit on site. It's a low-key visit rather than a full day out, and probably suits a morning or an afternoon rather than an entire day, but that makes it an easy one to slot in alongside something else nearby.

The farm shop is open 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, from mid May to early November.

Is there food on site?

Do we need to book ahead?
