Pick-Your-Own & Pumpkin Patches in Edinburgh
Pumpkin patches near Edinburgh mean a proper trip out rather than a stroll from town, but both options make it worthwhile. There is a longer trip out to Windygates for Woodbank Farm, where you pick strawberries straight from the fields at the farm shop, open from late May to mid September. Out at North Berwick, Balgone Estate turns pumpkin picking into a haunted trail, with a summer sunflower field and a lakeside walk if you bring the dog on a lead. For fruit picking with younger children, Woodbank Farm's strawberry season is the simpler outing, no booking needed. Balgone asks you to book ahead, but it has the most to fill an afternoon: pumpkins, sunflowers, a walk by the water, free parking, toilets and a cafe on site if nobody wants to wait for lunch at home. Neither is a quick pop-in, so plan for a half day and dress for whatever field you end up in.
