Woodland & Forest in Edinburgh

Woodland here is free and easy on the pocket, whatever the age of your kids. Out at Roslin, Three Hares Community Woodland has a musical shelter to bang about on and sometimes a campfire or egg-rolling day going on. Head further out to Alloa and Devilla Forest has a red squirrel trail past four lochs where you might spot dragonflies and otters. Leadburn Community Woodland, on the edge of West Linton, follows old railway lines past restored bogs and ponds. If you've got a buggy or want proper facilities, Devilla is the one to pick, it has accessible toilets, changing places and parking all on site. Three Hares suits a shorter visit with younger children, with toilets and space for a picnic. Leadburn is a longer trip out but good for older kids who can manage a longer walk, with parking at the start. None of these charge for entry, so you can just turn up and see how far you get.
