What it’s like

An hour of open fire cooking and high energy outdoor games, booked in advance for a small group.

The main event here is fire and games. Kids get stuck into high energy outdoor games and then gather round an open fire for a sausage sizzle, cooked properly rather than just handed over in a bun from a machine. It's a solid hour, and the site says PPE including eye protection is provided, so you just need to turn up in clothes that can get filthy and shoes with a toe in them.

Pricing is by group size rather than per head, which works out well if you've got a full car: £70 for up to two people, £85 for four, £100 for six. A birthday party is £210 for up to 12 guests over two hours, with extra guests at £10 each, and that includes the games and the sausage sizzle cooked on the fire. Sessions only run at weekends and school holidays, which the site puts down to the senior instructors being teachers, so this is not a Tuesday afternoon filler.

Booking matters more than usual here. A £50 deposit secures your slot, paid by online banking, with the balance due on the day, and you're told to turn up ten minutes early for sign-in and a safety briefing. Late arrival gets treated as a cancellation with the fees forfeited, which is a stricter line than most places take, so build in the extra time rather than cutting it fine. Sessions run in all weathers with a field shelter on hand, and if it's safe to run there's no refund or reschedule, so this one is not for you if a downpour would ruin the mood.

Food is limited to the sausage sizzle itself. There's nothing else provided on site, and the site is upfront that it can't guarantee an allergen-free meal given the open fire cooking, so pack something extra if anyone in your group has allergies or just fancies more than a sausage.

Do we need to book ahead?

Yes, and walk-ins are rarely accommodated. A £50 deposit secures the booking with the rest due on the day.

Late arrival is treated as a cancellation and the fees are forfeited, so leave plenty of time and arrive for the ten minute sign-in.

Is there food?

The sausage sizzle cooked on the open fire is included, but there's no other food provided, and they can't guarantee it's allergen free.

What if it rains?

Sessions run in all weathers with a field shelter available. If it's safe to go ahead there's no refund or reschedule, only in severe weather do they offer an alternative activity, venue or postponement.

Can we book a birthday party?

Yes, £210 covers up to 12 guests for two hours with games and the sausage sizzle, and extra guests are £10 each up to a maximum of 20.
