What it’s like
Electronic mini-golf with on-screen animations and prizes, nine themed holes in under an hour.
This is the mini-golf side of Urban Playground, not to be confused with THE CUBE next door (that one's a separate game with a 9-year age limit). Putters uses electronic clubs on themed courses, with live scoreboards and in-game prizes popping up as you go, plus on-screen animations and audio that turn a fairly ordinary round of golf into something with a bit more theatre. Five is the minimum age here, so it's genuinely playable with a younger sibling while an older one goes off and tries THE CUBE.
Nine holes takes up to 45 minutes, or stretch to 18 if you want closer to an hour and a half. At £8 for nine holes it's a reasonable chunk of an afternoon without committing you to a full day, and the site mentions mid-week sessions can save you up to 30% if you book ahead rather than turning up on a Saturday night. One faff worth knowing: it's cashless only, so leave the coins at home and bring a card.
Under 18s need an adult with them, and groups top out at six per game before you get split at the kiosks, so a big birthday party will end up as two teams rather than one shambles round the course. THE BUTCHER does gourmet burgers on site if golf works up an appetite, and there are two bars if the grown-ups fancy a drink while the kids finish their round. Closed Mondays, and Fridays and Saturdays run late into the evening if you want to avoid the daytime crowd.
