Unity Theatre
WHERE
Liverpool
What it’s like
A comedy and theatre venue on Hope Street with unreserved seating and a bar that opens an hour before curtain up.
This is a proper theatre space rather than a big commercial venue, and the booking system reflects that. Seats are unreserved across the board, which sounds like a faff until you read why: it means they can put wheelchair users, hearing aid loop users or anyone needing a BSL interpreter or audio description wherever works best for that particular show, rather than locking everyone into fixed seats that might not suit the format on the night.
Tickets come through as an email attachment, no physical tickets, so you show your phone or a printout on arrival. You can book any time online, or call the box office once phone lines open two hours before a show. The building itself only opens an hour before the show starts.
The bar opens for that same hour before curtain up, serving wine, spirits, beer and hot drinks, which is enough time for a swift one before you're called in. Concessions run for over 60s, under 16s, students, registered disabled, jobseekers and groups of 10 or more, and there are free companion and carer tickets on every event too. If you're driving, it's on-street pay and display round Hope Street, or one of several car parks within a 15 minute walk, and it's about 10 minutes on foot from Lime Street.
