What it’s like

A garden centre near Nottingham with two cafés, handy for a wander and lunch rather than anything built for kids.

This isn't a soft play or a farm, it's a garden centre, so the appeal for children is really the walk round the plant halls and then lunch. There are two cafés to choose from, The Digg Café and Fig & Fern, both doing freshly prepared meals, cakes and drinks, so if one's rammed you've got a fallback.

If you've got the dog with you, The Digg Café has a designated dog-friendly seating area, though Fig & Fern doesn't allow dogs in. Worth knowing which café you're heading for before you get there if the dog's coming too.

It's open Monday to Saturday from 9 till 5, and Sundays 9.30 till 4, so plenty of scope to fit it round nap times or a lazy weekend morning. They're shut on Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. There's also a free Click and Collect service if you're ordering online and swinging by to pick up rather than browsing with the kids in tow.

As a day out with children it's low key, best thought of as a stop on the way somewhere else rather than the main event, a chance to stretch legs and get a coffee and cake in before the next bit of the day.
