What it’s like

A garden centre near Nottingham with a proper café, free treasure hunts for kids and easy free parking.

This is a plants-and-pots visit first, but there's more for kids than you'd expect. There's a free treasure hunt with a prize at the end and a simpler scavenger hunt too, so a wander round the aisles doesn't have to end in tears. On special weekends they do free face painting, and there are craft tables, character meet and greets, and art workshops run with Create Art School dotted through the year. Around Christmas there's a Festive Bear Workshop and a Santa Paws event with dogs.

Moores Café is where most families end up. It does breakfast, home baked scones and cakes, and a kids meal with a jungle lunch box. Weekdays the café's open 9am to 4pm, with breakfast till 11:15am and lunch served 11:30am to 2:45pm. Sundays it's a shorter day, 10am to 3:30pm, same lunch window. Tables aren't bookable, it's first come first served, so if you're after a table at 1pm on a Sunday you might be waiting.

Opening hours shift with the seasons. Winter it's 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday; from early March it stretches to 5pm on weekdays. Bank holidays generally run 9am to 5pm, that covers Good Friday, Easter Monday, the early May bank holiday, the Spring bank holiday on 26th May and the August bank holiday, but Easter Sunday itself is closed by law. Christmas Eve is a short one, breakfast only until 1:30pm, and the whole place shuts over Christmas and New Year, reopening 3rd January.

It's free parking, dog friendly and wheelchair accessible, so a buggy won't be a problem either. If you fancy bingo, it's on every Tuesday from 10am with eyes down at 10:30am, which is more of a grown-up treat while the kids do the scavenger hunt.
