What it’s like

A garden centre with soft play, two restaurants and a grotto at Christmas, all under one roof near Nottingham.

The plants and pots are the main business here, but there's soft play with slides and a climbing frame to keep kids busy while you look at the outdoor furniture. At Christmas the site adds Santa's Grotto, complete with reindeer food and a toy to pick, plus a Christmas Afternoon Tea with finger sandwiches, homemade cakes and scones.

There are two restaurants on site, Café Théâtre with a deli counter and jacket potatoes, and The Greenhouse Kitchen, so you've got somewhere to sit down whichever end of the building you're in. The garden centre itself is open 9am to 6pm most days, a bit shorter on Sundays with a browse-only half hour from 10am before proper opening.

It's dog friendly, wheelchair accessible and there's baby change on site, useful if you're combining a shop with a coffee stop and a toddler in tow. Over Christmas it shuts on the 25th and 26th, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday, and knocks off at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, so check the calendar if you're planning a festive visit around the grotto.

If you're buying plants while you're there, hardy nursery stock comes with a five year guarantee, and most other returns are accepted within 28 days as long as things are in original condition with labels on.
