What it’s like
A garden centre near Nottingham with plant halls, a restaurant and a gift shop for a slower browse rather than a big kids' day out.
This is a garden centre first, so don't expect rides or a play frame. What you're doing is wandering the plant halls and the gift shop, then landing in the restaurant for something to eat. If your kids are the sort who'll happily trail round looking at fish for the pond or picking out a small cactus, it works better than you'd think for an hour or two.
The centre itself is open 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday, and 10:30am to 4:30pm on Sunday (with browsing from 10am). The restaurant keeps slightly shorter hours within that: 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3:30pm on Sunday, so if you're planning to eat, go before the kitchen shuts rather than right at closing time. Do note the kitchen's closed for maintenance from Monday 21st to Friday 25th September, when it's drinks and bakery only.
There's no booking needed for a general visit, you just turn up in opening hours. The restaurant does vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, all fresh from the kitchen, which is more choice than you'd expect from a garden centre café. Dogs are welcome too, both in the centre and the outdoor restaurant seating, so it's an easy one if you're bringing the family dog along with the family.
Wheelchairs are available to borrow, though they suggest arriving early or ringing the day before to make sure one's kept aside for you. Toilets are on site, and the whole place is wheelchair accessible.
